ProMagTech New Ultra-Thin Planar Transformer Enters Mass Production

After two years of R&D, the new generation planar transformer with only 8mm thickness has officially entered mass production, with power density 40% higher than the previous generation. The product uses self-developed nanocrystalline core materials and advanced flat wire winding technology, achieving higher efficiency and better thermal performance.

Product Features:
• Nanocrystalline core with high saturation flux density and low high-frequency loss
• Flat wire winding process with fill factor over 50%
• Ultra-thin design at only 8mm, saving 40% PCB space
• Reliability test planning can be aligned with project requirements
• Efficiency up to 98%+, suitable for LLC and CLLC resonant topologies

The new product is mainly targeting the EV OBC and DC-DC converter market, significantly improving power density and reducing temperature rise. Samples have passed validation tests from major EV manufacturers including BYD, NIO, and Li Auto, and have received mass production orders.

In terms of production planning, Phase 1 capacity is 50,000 units per month, which will expand to 200,000 units per month after Phase 2. Currently, batch delivery has begun to some customers, with expected sales revenue of 50 million RMB in 2026.

Technical Sharing: Flat Wire Inductors in Automotive OBC

With the continuous upgrade of EV fast-charging requirements, flat wire inductors are increasingly being used in OBC design due to their low DC resistance (DCR reduced by 20-30%) and high saturation current characteristics.

1. Technical advantages of flat wire inductors:
• High fill factor: Flat wire fill factor can reach 45-55%, 20-30% higher than round wire
• Low DCR: DC resistance reduced by 20-30% in the same volume
• Weak skin effect: Lower AC loss at high frequency
• Good thermal conductivity: Larger contact area with core, excellent heat dissipation
• Soft saturation: Inductance decreases more gradually with current

2. OBC inductor design considerations:
• Core selection: Nanocrystalline core recommended, high saturation flux density (Bs≥1.2T)
• Winding process: Use high-strength flat copper wire to ensure reliability
• Thermal design: Consider natural or forced air cooling, control temperature rise within 40K
• EMI design: Proper layout of core and windings to reduce leakage flux

3. AEC-Q200 certification requirements:
• High temperature storage test: 150°C/1000 hours
• Temperature cycling: -55°C to +155°C, 1000 cycles
• Mechanical vibration: 5g random vibration, 20 hours
• Electrical performance: Stable inductance, DCR, saturation current at room and high temperatures
